What is photography on a wedding day for?

The purpose is to document who was there, what really happened, and what it felt like to help you and your future selves remember what the day was all about.

You’re planning your wedding to reflect your values. These are my values as your photographer.

It’s your wedding day, not my photoshoot.

Although weddings are one of the most recorded days of a person’s life, they don’t exist merely for photographs. You’ll want to be present the whole day, not just the major moments. I’m drawn to honest displays of humanity, not on manufacturing or interrupting moments for the “perfect photo.”

I’m here to capture the energy already around you, not create them for you. So when you get your photographs back, it’ll feel like filling in the gaps of your memories.

The most memorable images are usually unplanned.

The camera doesn’t get put down between the “big moments.” It is always a beautiful treasure hunt of moments, energy, and surprises that occur when you and your people gather together.

We’ll make sure your wedding day leaves room for you to take a breath, makes space for real moments to unfold naturally, and honors the full range of emotions that takes place.

It is the highest honor to be invited into your lives to record something historic.

I’m here to help you fill in the gaps of your memories of your wedding day and be one less thing you need to worry about. You can expect prompt communication, over 300 weddings worth of experience, the utmost care to your images and albums, and an easy, stress free experience.

I promise to show up with curiosity and empathy, bring a calm energy to the day, to tell the truth, and to keep my eyes open to the moments I’ve been granted access to.

The best part of a photograph is seeing it printed.

There is an indescribable joy to a photograph that you can touch and hold. That’s why I offer prints, albums, and products so your photographs can be preserved with the utmost care and presentation they deserve.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Being a documentary wedding photographer doesn’t mean I won’t interact with anyone or not take ANY portraits or group photos. It means I won’t interrupt moments for the sake of a photograph, that the images I make come from organic moments that are not fabricated or manufactured by me.

I believe that the day is about love, community, and connection - not about photos. So I aim to give you an experience where you can live into your wedding day fully present. I photograph with a sense of curiosity, empathy, and anticipation, knowing that these photographs are what will bring the moments back years later when your memories are a bit fuzzy.

  • Of course! Family portraits are still important historical documentations, likely one of the rare times everyone is together and dressed to their best, and probably the photographs you’ll first turn to when sending someone a print. I’ll photograph the list of family photos you give me quickly and efficiently so that they are easy and painless for everyone.

  • Nearly all of my clients say this, you’re not alone :) The wonderful thing is, a wedding day does not revolve around photography. My photography revolves around the people of the day.

I work in an unobtrusive way, letting things unfold organically. When it’s time to get a few classic portraits of you and some family photos, I will help guide you to the best light, give easy, natural suggestions, and keep it short and sweet so that you’ll look and feel comfortable. No fake laughs or forced serious faces needed, and no need to spend hours away from your guests.

  • The full, complete gallery is typically delivered 4-6 weeks after the wedding.

Images are delivered as high-resolution JPG files available to download through your online gallery.

You have full personal usage rights, including printing and sharing.

  • I photograph nearly all weddings as a single shooter as a personal preference, and my clients appreciate the smaller media footprint this leaves at their event and allows me to blend in well to get those candids.

There are times when adding a second photographer is beneficial to your coverage, such as:

    1. You’re getting ready in two different locations and want getting ready coverage of each person.

    2. You’ve invested heavily into the details and design of your wedding and need more time to capture those elements.

    3. Your timeline has a lot going on, and you prefer not to see each other before the ceremony.

Talk to me about your vision and hopes for the wedding, and I will help you decide whether your coverage would genuinely benefit from a second photographer.

  • In order to reserve your date, I need a signed contract and a 50% retainer. Everything is done easily online through a booking portal.
